About
Rare Company is a San Francisco Bay Area string band playing original music that moves — from stomping, dobro-driven numbers that get people out of their seats, to tender waltzes that stop a room cold. Built around dobro, mandolin, guitar, and upright bass, with four-part harmonies woven throughout, the band brings a sound that's bluegrass-rooted and folk-hearted, but just as likely to swing hard or break your heart.Their debut full-length album Rare Company (Portobello Records, 2026) is a showcase of original songwriting that spans the full emotional range. Their live show goes further still, including a sizable original repertoire and creative arrangements of crowd favorites.Rare Company has built a devoted following across the Bay Area. Their album release show at The Plough and Stars packed the room. They have had recurring headlines at Blondie's Bar, The Liberties, and The Plough and Stars. They've been equally successful playing weddings and private events, where their dynamic range shines. If you want a band that leaves audiences asking for one more song, you've found them.
